Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) are the most important safety equipment. Federal law requires one wearable PFD per person aboard.

Type I PFDs provide the most buoyancy (22+ lbs) and are designed for offshore use where rescue may be delayed. They can turn an unconscious person face-up.
